Rain to Hit Ohio, Nebraska Fields this Week on Pro Farmer Crop Tour
Hitting the road on Pro Farmer Crop Tour this week? I hope they packed their rain gear.
Tour kicked off on Monday with temps reaching over 100° in some parts of the Midwest. But the forecast shows potential for rain on both legs of the tour, according to Bret Walts, BAMWX meteorologist.
“There could be a storm cluster in the far eastern Ohio Valley as a cold front works in late this week. Nebraska and Kansas could also see some rain this weekend” Walts says. “However, because the front is coming in from the Northeast, it’s not your typical moisture-producing cold front, so don’t expect too much rain.”
Due to hurricane activity on the coasts, most of the precipitation will stay south, according to Waltz. He says the rain will lead to relaxed temps across the Midwest as the week—and tour—progress.
“I do think we’re going to see relief from the heat as we work into the weekend—the 70s or low 80s could creep into Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Northern Illinois,” Walts says.
The cold wave will likely be short-lived. Waltz says the high temps are likely to return and stick around, at least in the plains, as the growing season progresses.
“As we move into September, I think we’ll have pleasant temperatures the farther east we go. But the plains, because they tend to run hotter than normal now, I think they’ll continue that path of heat and a good part of the ag belt will stay drier than normal through the first week of September,” Walts says.
