Harvest progress over the past week was slow but steady.

According to USDA’s crop progress report, 88% of corn and 95% of soybeans have been harvested so far. This remains slightly behind where progress was this time last year, but ahead of the five-year average overall.

For soybeans, 13 states have harvested more than 90% of their acres, with two of them (Louisiana and South Dakota) reporting 100% completion. North Carolina is the first state to report 100% of its corn acres have been harvested, and growers in nine other states are over the 90% mark.

As for those who have already crossed the finish line, it’s time to winterize.

But for many growers, including this farmer in Minnesota, the week ahead is shaping up to be their last in the combine this fall.

It was a big week for North Carolina. In addition to finishing up corn, farmers made significant progress – a 16% increase (from 45% to 61%) – in soybean harvest.

Other states picking up the pace in corn harvest last week include Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin.

Comments on yield have been mixed. While some growers are pleased with their results, others have seen below average numbers in both corn and soybeans.

There's potential for a calm week in weather conditions, though the Midwest might experience a few showers.
