The condition of the U.S. corn and soybean crops are holding steady, at least for now.

As of July 17, 37% of the U.S. corn crop is silking, which is behind the five-year average of 48%, according to USDA. The crop conditions include:

  • Very poor: 3%
  • Poor: 8%
  • Fair: 25%
  • Good: 51%
  • Excellent: 13%

The 64% in the good-to-excellent rating matches last week’s estimate. Last year 65% of the U.S. corn crop was at that rating.

For soybeans, 14% of the U.S. crop is setting pods, which is behind the five-year average of 19%. Soybean condition ratings include:

  • Very poor: 3%
  • Poor: 7%
  • Fair: 29%
  • Good: 51%
  • Excellent: 10%

The 61% in the good-to-excellent rating is one percentage point lower than last week’s 62%. Last year 60% of the U.S. soybean crop was at that rating.

Winter wheat harvest is 70% complete, which is on target with the average pace.
