ASFMRA Announces New & Updated Seminars
This July, the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) will unveil four new and updated continuing education seminars for rural land professionals. The seminars will make their debut during Education Week, an annual event featuring education for farm managers, rural appraisers and agricultural consultants. The seminars, which represent a total of 24 hours of CE, are designed to equip attendees with specific and applicable knowledge on a variety of topics valuable to ag appraisal businesses.
Two of the classes will be offered in an eight-hour, in-person format and will address the valuation of agricultural facilities, which can be notoriously difficult projects for appraisers. In the “Valuing Livestock Facilities: Dairy Farms” seminar, attendees will learn about how waste management, water supply and water rights, manure easements and leases, property rights values, and other factors play into the complex task of appraising dairies. The “Appraising Ag Facilities: Feedlots” course focuses on similar issues, as well as the unique problems encountered in feedlot valuation, and will walk participants through the overall appraisal process following the traditional approaches to value.
The four-hour seminars offered at Education Week will be held in a hybrid format, so attendees can choose between the in-person classroom experience or tuning in virtually from the comfort of home. One course entitled “Farmland Drainage Tiles: Valuation and Usage” will shed light on the different drainage systems and their impacts on farmland income and valuation, while “Barn-Dominium/Shouse/Shome: What It Is and What It Is Not” will familiarize students with a construction method that has quickly gained popularity in rural areas. The “Barn-Dominium” seminar will also cover the expectations that rural lenders and underwriters have for appraisers when valuating this type of property.
This year’s Education Week will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, with the new and updated seminars taking place on July 18-20. Additionally, the event will feature several qualifying education courses for appraisers, as well as farm management classes for those seeking to become accredited with the ASFMRA.
