New Seed Treatment Offers Novel Active Ingredient To Address Pythium and Phytophthora
Syngenta announces the registration of its new corn and soybean seed treatment, Vayantis systemic fungicide, by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The fungicide, which is based on the novel active ingredient picarbutrazox, is designed to protect seedlings from key blight and damping-off diseases, including Pythium and Phytophthora, in a variety of cropping systems.
Picarbutrazox will strengthen Syngenta’s Pythium portfolio of Mefenoxam technology and azoxystrobin in corn, soybeans, canola, oilseed rape, cereals and other crops, according to Jonathan Brown, global head of Syngenta Seedcare.
Brown says the fungicide will help farmers adopt reduced and no-tillage cropping systems, protect soil and avoid costly replants, while maximizing genetic yield potential through stronger emergence and stand establishment.
Nippon Soda, a Japanese pharmaceutical company, identified and initially developed the picarbutrazox technology and then partnered with Syngenta to bring the product to U.S. farmers. Syngenta expects the product to be registered in Canada later this year.
