As the company’s first bionematicide, Indigo Ag introduces biotrinsic Z15 for use in corn and soybeans. The company acknowledged this product’s development and pending launch earlier this year.

“Nematodes are often considered the silent yield killer because they can reduce yields without any visible above-ground indicators. Soybean cyst nematodes alone cause an estimated $1.5 billion in crop losses in the U.S., making it a priority for both farmers and retailers,” said Georg Goeres, global head of biologicals for Indigo Ag. “Despite that fact that there are several nematicide products available – both synthetic and biological – soybean cyst nematodes continue to spread geographically and the economic losses are increasing. Farmers need new products that are effective in combating these pests. biotrinsic Z15 combines multiple defense and protective actions, providing an effective new choice for farmers.”

The new bionematicide combines multiple defense actions including systemic resistance, protective root colonization and the production of secondary metabolites to fight nematodes. Specifically, biotrinsic Z15 contain’s a proprietary strain of Streptomyces sp., a naturally occurring bacterium, which colonizes plant roots to form an expanding area of protection.

Biotrinsic Z15 is applied as a flowable powder.

In high-nematode-stress trials, biotrinsic Z15 increased corn yields by 2.8 bu/acre and soybean yields by more than 1.0 bu/acre.

Indigo Ag says Z15’s formulation does not interfere with beneficial nematodes.

“Anytime we can use products that work with the plants to naturally help them protect themselves, rather than adding a synthetic element, it’s a win-win in our book,” said Blake Jones, co-founder and owner of Xceleration Ag, an Illinois-based agricultural retailer.

A Margin Squeeze is Setting in Across Row-Crop Farms, and 80% of Ag Economists Are Now Concerned It'll Accelerate Consolidation

There's an immense amount of pressure riding on this year’s crop production picture, and with a margin squeeze setting in across farms, economists think it could accelerate consolidation in the row-crop industry.

“If we step back and look at what that means for farmland, we're taking our energy production system from highly centralized production facilities and we have to distribute it,” says David Muth.
