Nutrien Opens New Minnesota Fertilizer Warehouse

The facility, located in Randolph, Minn., has a 40,000 sq. ft. footprint and can house 20,000 tonnes of dry fertilizer as well as 65 rail cars.

Nutrien has opened a new 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Randolph, Minn. with a goal of increasing efficiency and access for customers.

“Nutrien has an unparalleled network of distribution assets to safely and reliably deliver the crop nutrients our customers need, where and when they need them,” said Mark Thompson, EVP and chief commercial officer. “This investment in our new Randolph terminal is consistent with our strategy to continue strengthening the cost-position and efficiency of our North American distribution footprint, competitively positioning us to meet the evolving needs of the market for decades to come.”

The facility, known as the greenfield fertilizer terminal, is located 13 miles south of Minneapolis and will provide optimize the company’s distribution network, ensure efficient delivery, reduce cost-to-serve, and provide dedicated in-market storage. Technology such as a TerminalBoss automated scale will also increase ease of use.

According to Nutrien, the new facility will have the capacity to store 20,000 tonnes of dry fertilizer, including potash, nitrogen and phosphate products. It can also house 65 rail cars.

“We are excited to continue enhancing the strength of our network through targeted investments, just as we did with the Hammond, Indiana potash distribution facility that opened its doors in 2016,” said Elan Strueby, vice president, Transportation, Distribution & Logistics. “Once up and running at full capacity, we expect over 65,000 tonnes of product to move through the Randolph terminal annually.”
