BioWake Prime is now available through retail facilities ahead of the 2024 growing season.

The product is formulated to protect corn plants from corn rootworm damage through the use of unique microbes. According to AMVAC, these microbes prepare the plant’s immune system and cause it to produce chemicals that repel the pest. Though some corn rootworm larvae could still reach the plant, they share BioWake Prime is able to aid in recovery.

Ted Walter, U.S. GreenSolutions marketing manager at AMVAC, says the product will also fit well into growers’ existing programs.

“BioWake Prime is easy for growers to add into their integrated pest management programs for 2024,” Walter says. “Since it is a planter box solution, growers can easily add BioWake Prime to seeds before planting to reap its benefits this season.”

AMVAC reports on-farm trials found corn treated with BioWake Prime had an increase of 8 bu./acre win advantage over grower standard practice.

Research conducted at the University of Missouri also showed that when presented with roots that had been treated with BioWake Prime and roots with no treatment, 70% of the study’s corn rootworm larvae chose to feed on the roots with no treatment. And when only presented with roots treated with BioWake Prime, 80% of the larvae were unable to find roots to feed on.

However, the company notes BioWake Prime should not be the only management tool in moderate-to-high corn rootworm larvae infestations.

Sold as a co-pack with BioWake for Corn – which was voted the Scoop’s 2023 new product of the year – BioWake Prime is available in 14 states across the U.S.:
