3 Things Every Ag Retailer Should Know About Adjuvants
Terry Kippley, president of the Council of Producers and Distributors of Agrotechnology (CPDA), says adjuvants are the most cost effective input a farmer can use. And he explains how the industry grew from in 1976 three crop protection product labels requiring the use of an adjuvant (atrazine, glyphosate and paraquat) but that number is now more than 1,000.
“Things have changed so much when it comes to the formulation of all these different products,” Kippley says. “Adjuvants really are key in order to deliver that technology.”
He highlights how in today’s tight supply chains of crop protection products, adjuvants can provide extra assuredness that the investment made in a tank max will deliver its maximum effect in the field.
“A lot of people will say that the current market for adjuvants is only about 20 to 25% of the addressable market,” he says. “I think adjuvants are often neglected or they’re forgotten.”
To help retailers see the potential of these products, CPDA is partnering with the Agricultural Retailers Association to present a webinar “Adjuvant Advantage for the Sales Agronomist”

Kippley says attendees will be able to answer three questions:
- how adjuvants are used to solve problems and save time
- where do adjuvant recommendations stand in terms of the pesticide label
- why adjuvants are most cost effective input so the grower can use the get the job done and not have complaints
“By using an adjuvant you can help dial in to use rate of the pesticide, to get more out of the product,” Kippley says. “At the end of day, you want to get a high degree of performance. And with supply chain issues you may have a situation when you need to re-sprays and that re-spray material was not available.”
