Superior Ag announced today that after thirteen years as President and CEO of Superior Ag, Barry Day has shared his intention to retire on September 1, 2023. Day’s career will have spanned 40 years in the Indiana Cooperative system by the time of his retirement, having served in various leadership capacities at Ag Max, Heartland Coop, and Fulton Marshall Coop prior to joining Superior Ag in 2010 as President and CEO.

“After 40 years in the agricultural cooperative system, retirement life will be a big change for me,” expressed Barry Day, President and CEO of Superior Ag. “It is one I am looking forward to, but I will also miss working with everyone very much. I want to thank the Board of Directors, our family of employees and member-customers, and other community members for the joint effort and support it has taken to reach our achievements thus far and look forward to connecting with as many of you a possible during my remaining months.”

Under Day’s direction, Superior Ag has seen significant growth in all aspects of the business and was recently ranked 48th in the CropLife 100 ranking of the largest ag retailers in the U.S. for 2022. Notable achievements include increasing the company’s footprint to surrounding states, expanding the livestock nutrition division and constructing a new state-of-the-art feed mill, substantial growth of SynEnergy Partners refined fuel business, increasing the company’s total grain storage capacity to 6.6 million bushels, continued growth of agronomy, seed and crop-chemical services, and vastly strengthening the company’s financial position.

Day has also served on the Agricultural Retailers Association National Board since 2018, the Dubois Strong Board since 2017, the Cooperative Pension and Savings Board since 2000, and a variety of others over the years. In retirement, Day plans to move to Texas with his wife, Teresa, spend time visiting children and grandchildren in California and Colorado, and traveling.

“We are very grateful for Barry’s leadership and dedication to serving Superior Ag, its employees, member-owners, and local communities in the Tri-State area over the past 13 years,” said Pat Messmer, Chairman of the Superior Ag Board of Directors. “We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish together on behalf of the cooperative and wish him the best in his next chapter of retirement.”

The Superior Ag Board of Directors will engage in a nationwide search for a President and CEO to fill Day’s vacancy with the assistance of Ag1Source, an executive recruitment and talent solutions company focused exclusively on the agricultural industry.
