The Agricultural Retailer Association’s Richard Gupton and Hunter Carpenter discuss the latest policy and regulatory updates from Washington, D.C. on The Scoop podcast.

Details include:

  • On June 28, 2024, the Supreme Court issued its decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, which overruled the doctrine of Chevron deference. Gupton says this decision will lead to Congress looking at regulatory legislation differently with a better lens on the industries effected and it will encourage agencies to have better decision making processes.
  • OSHA is revising its heat standard, initially looking at 76 degrees for an initial heat trigger and is now looking at 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Gupton says both are way too low so the main basic concern over a low trigger still remains.
  • EPA is finalizing its herbicide strategy in August, which ARA’s team highlights as still being able to find agility within the framework being proposed.
  • Hunter Carpenter gives an update on where the Farm Bill stands, and how ag retailers can get involved.
  • And both policy pros share additional ways for ag retailers to engage with law makers including hosting facility visits during the August recess.
