The McGregor Company, the largest family-owned independent agricultural retailer in the Inland Pacific Northwest, welcomes D&M Chem to its company.

D&M Chem was founded in 1997 by brothers Dee and Mathias Gargus. Both leaders will remain with the newly formed D&M division of The McGregor Company along with their 30 employees.

D&M Chem’s business was built on agronomic services and products for permanent tree fruit crops (mainly apples) and specialty crops (mainly hops).

“The way we go to market is similar. They lead with a high service, high touch agronomy-first approach,” says Ian McGregor, Ian McGregor, President of The McGregor Company. “D&M Chem has a deep agronomic bench of skills, which is synergistic with our company.”

In 2005, D&M Chem developed and patented a micronized calcium-based apple sunshade product, named Eclipse, which now has an international sales footprint.

“The D&M team has thought outside of the box in their business, and Eclipse is an example of that,” McGregor says. “They believe in innovation, which is inline with how The McGregor Company has been very specific to focus on solving problems with agronomic products.”

The McGregor Company was founded more than 140 years ago and has ag retail offices in more than 36 communities in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The two locations of D&M Chem will be added to this footprint.

“We welcome D&M and see this as a growth opportunity. Size and scale in this business does matter, and we see continued growth potential in our adjacent geography and ancillary crops and specialty crops,” McGregor says.

He adds, “For our business, it comes down to the dedicated people who make up our team and care about the business. As I’ve gotten to know the D&M business in the past year, it’s easy to recognize that they’ve got a phenomenal team. Our goal is to support them to serve their customers even better and be behind them for the long haul.”
