Effective Jan. 1, 2025 AgroLiquid will acquire Monty’s Plant Food, which will bring together two family-founded businesses.

“This strategic combination allows us to bring crop nutrition technologies to growers that wouldnʼt otherwise be available to them,” says Nick Bancroft, CEO of AgroLiquid. “While both companies share the same goals in advancing agricultural innovation, our different approaches to achieving them will create new opportunities to optimize nutrient efficiency and productivity for growers.”

Bancroft said company leaders began discussion of a partnership and joint future earlier in 2024.

AgroLiquid, headquartered in St. Johns, Mich., manufactures and distributes high-efficiency liquid fertilizer formulated to protect nutrients from loss to the environment.

“This acquisition will leverage our strength in manufacturing and research,” Bancroft adds.

Monty’s Plant Food Company was started in 1997 in Louisville. Its first humic products were for roses, flowers and vegetables, but the portfolio has expanded so that company became a specialist in soil health and plant nutrition technology including in agriculture. Its first ag product development started in 2000, with the launch of its flagship product, Monty’s Liquid Carbon, in 2004.

The acquisition unites AgroLiquidʼs expertise in liquid fertilizer solutions with Montyʼs specialized knowledge in soil health and humic technology. Both companies will maintain their distinct brands and continue operating independently through the 2025 growing season to ensure seamless service to their respective customers.

“It already feels like we’ve been working together for 20 years,” says Jeff Sangalli, CEO of Montyʼs Plant Food Company. “We will continue to bring industry-leading humic technologies—that won’t change. This is about bringing more value to the value chain as we get new innovations, new efficiencies and new technologies.”

The combined entity will maintain both companies’ brands and products. Bancroft explains for the 2025 season growers and retailers shouldn’t expect any changes in how they do business with AgroLiquid and/or Monty’s. Jeff Sangalli will continue to lead the Monty’s business.
