Raising a big crop requires you to pay attention to the small things that make a difference. Austin Anderson, adjuvant brand manager at Helena, shares his top tips for this year’s spray season and highlights the Helena portfolio of more than 109 adjuvants.
“In my job I focus on finding places where we can fit new products in our portfolio. And then the other part I spend time stewarding some of our extensive portfolio,” he says.
Anderson adjuvants play a key role in making applications as efficient and effective as possible.
“We know is the most that most expensive application that someone will make is one that doesn’t work,” he says, and encourages retailers and farmers to match the spray application needs with the necessary adjuvants tools.
This includes:
- Herbicide activators
- Water management tools
- Methylated seed oils
- Surfactants
“I’d encourage everyone to get back to the basics of what adjuvants do, and use the tech in the right way,” Anderson says. “Using an adjuvant could mean the difference between a successful application and really having to go back and do it over again.”
Additionally, he encourages adviser and farmers to test the water quality for irrigation and spray applications for optimal pesticide performance.
In light of farm size getting larger, and the potential for a bigger crunch time to get to the field and make necessary applications, Helena is bringing to market a new product, Cohort.
“With Cohort we are bringing AMS into the 21st century,” Anderson says. “It’s about less volume while delivering outstanding performance.”
Cohort is a liquid formulation, which also eliminates the need to mix a dry powder.
