On Aug. 25, Superior Ag celebrated the opening of its 32,000-ton Ohio River Terminal near Rockport, Ind.
To mark the milestone, the cooperative hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house.
“The Ohio River Terminal project would not have been possible without the support of our board of directors, employees, contractors, business partners, local leaders, and cooperative members,” Richard Lloyd, President and CEO of Superior Ag said in a news release. “Today’s celebration is a testament to what can be accomplished when people come together to invest in the future of agriculture and our local communities.”
Lloyd underscores the terminal’s long-term significance across southwestern Indiana and northern Kentucky.
“This dry fertilizer terminal represents an investment in the future of agriculture across our region,” he said. “By expanding our infrastructure and improving access to key crop nutrients, we are strengthening our ability to support our members and customers for generations to come.”
Groundbreaking for the project was just over a year ago and the expected project cost was $20 million.
The state-of-the-art terminal feature:
- 10 large bins for diverse fertilizer segregation
- 600 TPH barge receiver (full barge in ~3 hours)
- 300 TPH truck receiver (truck off-load in ~5 minutes)
- 300 TPH blend & ship capability (25-ton load in ~5 minutes)
- Automated treatment systems for stabilizers, micronutrients, dust control
- Expected throughput: 30–35 barges/year
