BioConsortia Receives EPA Registration for Amara Biofungicide
BioConsortia’s new biofungicide and bactericide, Amara, has received registration from the EPA.
The product is meant to protect high-value fruit and vegetables from foliar diseases with a biological mode of action as an alternative to chemical fungicides. Its beneficial bacteria degrade fungal pathogen cells and promote systemic resistance to control and suppress disease.
“The EPA approval of Amara biofungicide marks a major step for BioConsortia in the use of the company’s natural biologicals to help plants fight disease,” said Marcus Meadows-Smith, chief executive officer at BioConsortia. “The patented strain in Amara fungicide was discovered using our powerful biologicals discovery platform, AMS, that has been leveraged to develop a diverse pipeline of multiple leads to be commercialized through partners as products that combat disease, insects and nematodes, as well as for biostimulants and biofertilizers.”
Amara biofungicide will be marketed and sold by Nichino America. Final plans are still currently under development, but Nichino expects it to be available for the 2025 use season.
Harrison adds, “Amara will provide conventional and organic growers an effective solution for control of diseases on important crops, providing a quality yield while managing residues on the final commodity.”
Intrepid Potash CEO Steps Down, Company Names Acting CEO
Bob Jornayvaz has stepped down as chief executive officer and as a director of the board at Intrepid Potash following his extended medical leave of absence.
“We are thankful to Bob for his immeasurable contributions to the company over the last two decades,” said Barth Whitham, chair of the board. “Bob led numerous initiatives that strengthened our customer relationships, modernized our operations, and capitalized on our unique position as the only domestic producer of potash. He took great pride in the company and its contributions to the domestic and global agriculture industry. Bob and his family remain in our thoughts, and we continue to wish him well in his recovery.”
Intrepid’s chief financial officer, Matt Preston, will continue to serve as acting principal executive officer as the board of directors’ search to identify a successor chief executive officer remains ongoing.
“The board’s search for a CEO is well underway,” Whitham said. “In the interim, we are pleased to continue to have Matt and the rest of the management team lead the execution of Intrepid’s strategic plan.”
