Wyffels Hybrids announces its new Iowa-based facility is now open for business to serve corn growers throughout its target market geography, with special emphasis on its customers in southern South Dakota, southern Minnesota and western Iowa.
“The new warehouse and distribution center in Ames brings seed closer to our western business unit customers,” company president John Wyffels tells AgWeb. “This is especially important during planting season when our customers need seed, and they need it fast.
“Taking pressure off our Atkinson facility means more efficiency for all our customers, and not just the west-central Corn Belt,” he adds.
Wyffels explains that the company’s vision is for the Iowa site to have the same capabilities as its Atkinson, Ill., facility.
“Right now, the new facility is a warehouse and distribution center that will store and ship all our current hybrids,” says Wyffels, who leads the 78-year-old, third-generation family owned and led business.
Wyffels Plans Future Expansions
In addition to storage and distribution capabilities, the site includes research and agronomy test sites available to Wyffels sales team members, seed representatives and customers for tours and agronomy days. With continued growth, future expansions include seed corn production capabilities, enhanced research and corn breeding functions, as well as meeting and training resources, the company reports.
“Our demonstration and show plots will have our current lineup of hybrids as well as a variety of agronomic research trials to allow us to bring valuable information to our customers to help them best manage our hybrids,” Wyffels says.
The new facility, under construction for the past 15 months, opened formally on July 10. More than 200 fulltime employees gathered for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“We announced the new location in October 2022 and broke ground in spring 2023,” Wyffels says.
“We’re really excited about the new Iowa site. Not only for what this means to us as a company, but for our customers,” he adds. “This is a huge milestone for Wyffels, and it’s just the first phase. As we continue to grow, so will the functions and capabilities at the Iowa site.”
The new facility is located on approximately 150 acres near Interstate 35 and Highway 30.
