It could be said ag retail businesses come in all shapes and sizes—in terms of their products and services offered, geographies covered and business scope pursued.
To get a measure of what an average ag retail location looks like, the Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) partnered with The Scoop in the fall for a study sent out via email and returned by more than 140 qualifying respondents.
The in-depth questionnaire aimed to gather data to better understand retailer attributes and behaviors, so the data can be used to build today’s model or typical “retailer profile.”
The ARA sees this as a powerful tool to analyze the impact of regulatory implications in dollar amounts down to the individual ag retail location or multiplied across an entire business’ footprint. These could be existing regulations or ones being considered and developed. ARA also intends to use this as a tool to demonstrate the value of its advocacy on behalf of ag retail.
