As the 2024 growing season approaches, many soybean farmers are thinking about how they can maximize yield potential this year. One tool that can help them achieve these goals is by utilizing local and national trial results. By comparing different soybean products in real-world conditions, soybean growers can get a better understanding of which products perform best on their specific soil types and under different stress conditions.

By utilizing yield trial results, soybean farmers can make informed seed purchasing decisions that can lead to increased yield potential and profitability. A few resources available to farmers are the Farmer’s Independent Research of Seed Technologies (FIRST) trials and the WinField United Answer Plot® testing program, in addition to university trials and on-farm trials.

"Yield trial results are an important tool for soybean farmers when making seed purchasing decisions," said Marc Hoobler, Canola & Soybean Agronomy Lead at BASF Agricultural Solutions.

In the 2023 FIRST trials, Xitavo™ soybean seed, exclusively distributed by BASF Agricultural Solutions, secured more than 14 first-place rankings, 119 top-10 finishes and 403 top-30 finishes. Xitavo's performance in the trials is truly impressive, with 42 first-place finishes achieved by 23 unique Xitavo products over the past three years.

In addition to the FIRST trials, the Xitavo seed brand has demonstrated outstanding performance in the WinField United Answer Plot® testing program. Over the last three years, 18 separate Xitavo products were defined as National Performers by WinField United with 6 total National Performers this season.

"We witness Xitavo perform time and time again on growers' fields, and these trials are reinforcing our confidence in the Xitavo lineup across all maturity groups we offer,” Hoobler said.

When considering yield trial results, it's important to keep in mind that each farmer's situation is unique. Soil type, weather patterns, and other factors can impact how a soybean product performs in a particular field. That's why it's important to look at multiple sources of information and consult with agronomists and other experts before making a final decision.
