2020 might go down in history as the costliest year ever for storm damage. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports 22 different $1 billion weather disasters occurred last year in the U.S. That beats the previous record of 16 $1 billion dollar disasters set in both 2011 and 2017. Since 1980, when NOAA began tracking this data, the U.S. has sustained 285 $1 billion-dollar weather and climate disasters.
