ARA is tracking several bans on chlorpyrifos products and use. New York State legislature passed a ban prohibiting chlorpyrifos use by aerial application beginning Jan. 1, 2020, except for apple tree trunks, and prohibiting any chlorpyrifos use by Dec. 1, 2021. The European Union (EU) confirmed during a regulatory committee vote on Dec. 6 it will prohibit sales of chlorpyrifos after Jan. 31, 2020. This decision is “out of step with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority,” said Corteva Agriscience Spokesman József Máté. These bans follow a recent ban from California Environmental Protection Agency announced on Oct. 10, 2019, prohibiting the sale of chlorpyrifos in the state starting Feb. 6, 2020.
