The Arthur Companies Acquires Beach Cooperative

Notably, this marks a business transaction of a private company buying a co-op.

Expanding its footprint, on July 1, The Arthur Companies has acquired Beach Cooperative Grain Company, located in western North Dakota.
It marks a notable ownership shift, bringing a longtime cooperative under the umbrella of a privately held, family-owned agricultural company. The acquisition provides immediate cash value to Beach patrons and brings it together with Arthur’s broader grain, agronomy and research platform.

“For 120 years, The Arthur Companies has grown by earning the trust of farmers one relationship at a time,” said James Burgum, Chief Executive Officer of The Arthur Companies. “Beach has been built on the same kind of neighbor-to-neighbor service, local commitment, and long-term thinking that define our company. We are honored to carry that legacy forward and invest in the people, facilities, and services growers in this region depend on.”

The transaction follows approval by Beach Cooperative members. It also follows months of planning between the Beach board, Beach leadership, and Arthur Companies.

“The Beach Cooperative Board has spent considerable time evaluating sustainable paths forward to ensure a strong, successful business for our patrons well into the future. We took a thoughtful approach to this process because we understood what was at stake for our members, employees, and community,” said Rick Miske, President of the Beach Cooperative Board of Directors. “Arthur shares our values, understands the importance of local service, and has shown a clear commitment to maintaining strong competition for growers in this region.”

Financial terms were not disclosed. Arthur said the acquisition strengthens its grain and agronomy platform in western North Dakota while preserving local leadership and jobs. Beach will remain locally managed, with trucking, fertilizer, grain handling and related services continuing as Arthur evaluates future investments in equipment, technology, facilities and market access.
