USDA Extends Comment Period for Competition Challenges in Ag
USDA announced an extension on a comment period created to identify impacts of challenges in seed, fertilizer, other agricultural inputs and retail markets, with a new deadline of June 15, 2022.
On March 17, 2022, three requests for information were published by the Federal Register. The requests outlined information about competition in regard to producers’ access to fertilizer, seed and agricultural inputs, as well as food retail.
With the information, USDA intends to provide data on competition and market access to producers and new market competitors.
According to USDA, the comment period is part of the Biden administration’s effort to support fertilizer production and address competition and costs, “including price hikes form the war in Ukraine, and recent supply chain disruptions.”
