Farmers have a new option to consider adding to their 2023 weed-control toolbox, Maverick corn herbicide, from Valent U.S.A.

The herbicide, which has received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approval, is set to control tough broadleaves, including waterhemp, Palmer amaranth and marestail, as well as annual grasses.

The herbicide features three modes of action to help growers better address herbicide-resistant weeds:
•    clopyralid, a Group 4 plant-growth inhibitor
•    mesotrione, a Group 27 HPPD inhibitor
•    pyroxasulfone, a Group 15 very-long-chain fatty acid

“Maverick also provides growers the operational flexibility they need to make the most of their weed management program,” says Erick Garcia, brand manager, in a press release.

Garcia says the herbicide can be applied in field corn beginning at preplant and in-season in up to 18” corn.

A list of the states where the product is currently approved for use is available at www.valent.com/Maverick.
