After 8 Years the Viptera Saga Comes to a Close

The controversy surrounding Syngenta’s Agrisure Viptera is nearing a close as the company announced a $1.51 billion settlement to America’s farmers this week. The journey to this decision has been long and arduous for all parties involved.
This settlement comes after years in court with farmers and grain handlers. Plaintiff parties asserted that Syngenta’s introduction of Viptera prior to Chinese approval, and subsequent barge rejection, lead to depressed corn prices. Syngenta has long argued that the product was approved in the U.S. and that China was not considered a major trade partner at the time, making the move justified.
