Microsoft's Goal to Deliver Broadband to Rural America
Tech giant Microsoft wants to give broadband internet access to rural America because an estimated 23 million Americans don’t have high speed internet.
The company is calling for a combination of private and public investments to get about 2 million customers from farm country online within the next five years. The focus will be on Arizona, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.
Microsoft said it could use unlicensed and unused airwaves on the TV spectrum, known as white space, to transmit wireless signals.
Microsoft says it has teamed up with the national 4-H council to help with computer literacy training in those states.
